As a collective of historians, anthropologists, linguists, archivists, and cultural researchers, the Council is dedicated to:
1. Recovering and Authenticating History : Tracing the origins, migrations, and key events that shaped the Itsekiri people, using oral traditions, archival records, and archaeological evidence
.2. Documenting Language and Oral Heritage : Recording dialects, proverbs, folklore, songs, and oral accounts before they are lost, to create a living archive for future generations.
.3. Safeguarding Cultural Practices and Artifacts : Identifying, cataloging, and preserving traditional institutions, festivals, regalia, art, and material culture unique to Itsekiri communities.
4. Reconnecting the Diaspora : Mapping and engaging Itsekiri communities across Nigeria and around the world to strengthen identity, unity, and shared heritage.
5. Educating and Informing : Publishing verified research, educational materials, and public programs to ensure accurate knowledge replaces myth and misinformation.
The Council operates independently, with a commitment to scholarly rigor, cultural respect, and community collaboration. Our work is guided by the belief that a people who know their history cannot be easily erased.
